Mrs. Lula Mae Gholston Gadlin was born July 13, 1927 in Daingerfield, Texas. She was the youngest daughter of seven children born to Marvin and Addie Bell Gholston. Lula was married to Mr. Earl C. Gadlin on August 20, 1952. She attended school in the Cason Independent School District where she was a successful student. Lula had many special gifts. Her number one gift was sewing, and she was excellent at it. She made all of her daughter’s clothes, and often made clothing for her grandchildren. She also tailored complete dresses for women and complete suits for men. Tradition was important to Lula. Every New Year’s holiday, family would gather at her home, where she would prepare chitterlings, fried chicken, greens, old-fashioned cornbread, and peach cobbler. She loved to spend time with family and friends dining, and she always enjoyed cooking and having a great meal. Lula was a member of the Galilee Church of God In Christ for 52 years under the leadership of Pastor, and Supt. R. Hunter. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, former Church Mother, and President of the Home & Foreign Missions. She served at Galilee most recently under the leadership of Pastor R. Allen. Lula was truly blessed. She loved to travel and frequently went on summer vacations with the youth groups and other church members. They traveled to a different state every year, for what used to be called UNAC, now called AIM. Her grandson, Jerome, joined her on these trips from the time he was in the 3rd grade, until his last year in high school. She truly had a great time during those trips. Lula was preceded in death by husband Earl Gadlin, parents Addie and Marvin Gholston, sister Lucille Nelson, brothers: Leon, Lloyd, Thomas, Lieutenant, and Raeford Gholston, plus granddaughter Vicki Bennett Nickerson. Lula leaves to cherish her memory 3 children: Lee Bennett (Linda), Joyce Allen (Elder Raymond), Larry Spraglin, 9 grandchildren: Lisa Modica, Jerome Allen (Helen), Kimberly Ivy (Donnell), Barb Bennett, Cedric Bennett (Michele), Roderick Henry, Michelle Henry, Shalamar Williams (Stewart), Glenn Nickerson (Vicki), 7 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, a special niece Betty Johnson, many other nieces and nephews, plus a host of other relatives and friends.
