Magdalena was born the first of seven children on July 11, 1958, in Hobbs, New Mexico, to parents Steve Sr. & Tomasita Rubealcaba. Following the family’s move to Dallas, Magdalena continued and completed her education in 1977, from her beloved alma mater, Sunset High School, in Oak Cliff, Texas. In 1979, she married her high school sweetheart, Fernando Soto, Jr. and they settled in the suburbs of Duncanville, Texas. She then began her career as an Administrative Assistant in the innovative field of technology at IBM. During her tenure, prior to falling ill, she and Fernando welcomed their 2 children, Monica and Deanna Soto. In the spring of 1990, Magdalena began her grueling 30+ year battle of illness, beginning with cancer, and ending with kidney failure. Through it all, she maintained a beautiful and contagious smile, and relied heavily on her faith for strength.
Magdalena is preceded in death by her father, Steve Rubealcaba Sr, sister, Belinda Hughes, and nephew, Mike Rubealcaba Jr. She is survived by her former spouse, Fernando Soto Jr.; mother, Tomasita Rubealcaba of Dallas; brothers Steve Jr. and wife Christina of Dallas, Mike and wife Josie of Dallas, Robert and wife Elizabeth of Garland, and Mario, Sr. of Dallas; sister, Lisa Alcala and husband Eleazar Sr. of Irving; daughters, Monica Soto-Pena, husband Domingo Pena Jr. of Lancaster, and Deanna Soto of Grand Prairie, 5 grandchildren (Erick Aguero Jr., Karina Morales, Isaac Morales, Mia Aguero, and Samantha Morales), and 2 bonus grandchildren (Andrew & Alex Pena), and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Magdalena was a devout Christian, always ready and willing to pray for anyone, despite how she felt physically. Her determination to fight daily to be present for her family was beyond miraculous, and she was loved and admired by ALL who were blessed to know her. We are humbled and grateful for all she did for children, grandchildren, and family. She will be immensely missed.
In loving memory of Magdalena, the family will host a gathering after the completion of funeral services for food & fellowship, as well as to honor her legacy. The celebration will be held at 2:00pm at the home of Monica Soto-Pena and Domingo Pena Jr. For further details, please contact Monica (469) 571-6062, Deanna (972) 816-6530 or Steve Jr. (214) 837-6606.
