Marion Celeste (Workman) Thomas was born on the 1st day of September 1938, in Dallas, TX to Eddie and Margaret Workman. She was the youngest of twelve children in a family filled with love and laughter. Marion and her siblings grew up in the heart of Dallas, in a family home that once stood where Fair Park’s back parking lot is now. It was in this home that she truly experienced the strong bonds of a large, loving family.
Marion was a proud graduate of Forest Avenue High School in Dallas, then later went on to build a successful career in banking. She began working right after graduation and dedicated over 50 years to the industry before retiring. Her commitment, integrity, and professionalism left a lasting impression on all who worked with her.
Marion brought one daughter into this world – Terri Linn, who later gave her 3 grandsons. Not only was she proud to be a mom and grandma, but she also loved being an aunt to her multiple nieces and nephews. She was always the first to say, “I love you dearly”.
Marion’s faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. It was no wonder that she would meet and fell in love with J.V. Thomas (who happened to be a pastor) later in her life. They married in 2009. Their connection was grounded in shared faith and love for each other until the end. They cherished their time together and brought each other immense joy, companionship, and love. J.V. also had a large family, so their marriage brought her many more children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Margaret Workman, her husband J.V., her eleven siblings, her daughter Terri, and her grandson Jason.
Known for her sharp wit, infectious laugh, and zest for life, Marion brought joy wherever she went. Her sense of humor and warmth touched everyone she met, and her legacy of love, resilience, and faith will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
