Marion Rhett Walters passed away peacefully at home in Dallas on December 16, 2025, at the age of 82. Born August 27, 1943, in Baltimore, she was the eldest of four children and spent her formative years in Charleston and Atlanta.
While working for Delta Airlines in Atlanta, Marion met the love of her life, her late husband Dave, through mutual friends. They settled in Dallas where Marion was a dedicated stay-at-home mother and a generous member of her community. Her intellectual curiosity never waned, and later in life she finished college, earned her masters in history and briefly taught at Texas Woman’s University.
She had a passion for genealogy that sometimes led her to cemeteries around the south, enlisting her son in search of particular grave markers to fill in names and birth dates in the family tree. She passed along her love of travel to both son and daughter. The three once met in Madrid and travelled to Egypt to see ancient history up close. Marion and her daughter were brave enough to even ride camels! She and her late husband took many trips with friends from their days in the airline industry, and she loved to tell the stories of these wonderful times. She was so happy to welcome two wonderful grandchildren to the family, and travelled all over to visit them as often as she could. More recently she loved visits from her grand-dog, Abigail!
She is survived by her daughter Mary, son Lawrence, two grandchildren, brother Edmund and sister Sally. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave.
There will be a celebration of life 2-4pm January 2 at The Tradition, 5850 E Lovers Ln, Dallas. Funeral service will be held 11am February 13 at Church of the Incarnation 3966 McKinney Ave, Dallas.
