

Marlene was larger than life. Her super star glamour and presence captivated everyone around her. Her taste, home designs and artwork were impeccable. Marlene had many ideas, which she vividly expressed. Her pursuits took her around the world, often dining with heads of state and renowned artists. Whether you were her child, partner, friend or family, when Marlene loved you, you definitely felt loved.
Marlene was proud of her work as an interior designer which included two designer showhouses. She was also involved with fundraising for the arts and her Docent roles at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City and the Guggenheim Museum in New York City.
Marlene was born on September 30, 1935, to parents Herman and Gertrude Marcus. She grew up in Dallas with her younger siblings, Judith Marcus Shampaine and Richard Marcus. Marlene graduated from Highland Park HS in Dallas, Texas, and from Stephens College and Parsons School of Design. After marriage, Marlene initially settled in Kansas City where she gave birth to her two sons, Bob Schultz of Sacramento, California, and David Schultz of Stockholm, Sweden. Marlene initially moved back to Dallas, but her interior design work ultimately took her to New York City. In her later years, Marlene moved to Sacramento, California ,to be near her grandchildren, son Bob and his wife Toddy.
Marlene is predeceased by her parents; her sister, Judith Marcus Shampaine; and her partner of 40 years, Ted Meyer. Marlene is survived by her sons and their spouses, Toddy Schultz and Susanne Jansson; by her grandchildren, Sarah and Sam Schultz of Sacramento, California, Lilian Jansson-Schultz of Stockholm, Sweden; and nieces and nephews, Victoria Shampaine, Leslie Shampaine, (both from Bethesda, Maryland) and Martin Shampaine of Washington D.C.; Lisa Marcus Schlachter and Lesli Marcus Gernsbacher of Dallas, Texas.
From Dallas to Kansas City to New York to California, Marlene lived, loved and did it her way.
