Marshall was a brilliant mind, curious, quick-witted, and endlessly sharp. A person whose intelligence was matched by his warmth and ease in conversation. Marshall greeted everyone with a genuine smile and the gift of being a hilarious storyteller.
Of all his roles in life, none brought him more pride than being “Dad” to his beloved son, Cash. Marshall’s face lit up whenever Cash was near. He was endlessly proud of his son’s accomplishments on and off the hockey rink. He loved recounting the goals Cash saved, cheering him on from the glass. Together they shared a passion for snow skiing, youth hockey, the Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Stars (Cash’s forever teams).
Born on March 7, 1970, in Houston, Texas to Michael and Charlotte Murphy, Marshall grew up alongside his sister, Shannon, forging bonds of laughter, fierce debate and unwavering loyalty. His childhood was filled with many joys and adventures, one of his favorites being a ball boy for the Houston Rockets. He and his father had a deep bond loving the Rockets, cheering the Texas Longhorns and Astros, laughing hysterically at their favorite movies and sharing so many special moments.
Marshall attended Memorial High School in Houston, graduating in 1988 where he made lifelong friends and continued his love for tennis. He graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from Washington and Lee in 1992. He made many friends during his time in Pi Kappa Alpha. He went on to complete his MBA from the University of Texas in 1997. He held multiple executive roles in investment banking, mortgage banking and private equity across the country in NYC, San Francisco, Pasadena, Washington D.C., Denver, Dallas and Atlanta. A favorite professional memory was being one of the Nationstar Mortgage Holdings, Inc. executives ringing the bell at the New York Stock Exchange.
Through his work he met Erica Murphy with whom he shared laughter, love, enormous amounts of friends, including the Dallas hockey community, and their greatest joy, Cash. They were united by a deep friendship and a shared commitment to raising an amazing son.
Marshall is preceded in death by his grandparents, “Spud” and Mary Murphy and Frank and Betsy Head, whose stories and values he carried proudly. Marshall is survived by his son, Cash Eamon Murphy; his parents, Michael and Charlotte Murphy; his sister Shannon Murphy Beeley; his nephews and niece, Reed, Corin and Camilla Beeley; his Aunt Elizabeth Sinclair, Uncle Frank Head and Aunt Phyllis Head, as well as many beloved cousins. His legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him.
Family and friends will celebrate Marshall’s life on Friday, July 11th at 2 pm at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas 75225.
