

Vernon, Max B. born June 15, 1922 in Stuttgart, Germany to Helen and Leo Vorchheimer, passed away August 21, 2016 in Dallas, Texas. After his father arranged his release from Dachau, Max survived the Holocaust, and then traveled on the kinder transport to London and months later to the United States in June 1939. He lived in New York until entering the US Army serving in the Pacific Theater in World War II. While serving in the Army, Max became a US citizen in 1943. He was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Tech Sergeant.
Upon return to civilian life he entered the Cotton Business which brought him to Dallas in 1949. He was past President of the Texas Cotton Association and served on many local and national boards and committees in the Cotton Industry. He traveled extensively to many cotton producing and consuming countries.
Max is survived by his wife of 61 years, Miriam Guckenheimer Vernon, their son Jay and his wife Lynn; grandchildren Hope Vernon, Jenna and Duane Holte and great granddaughters Verity and Vivienne Holte; his sister-in-law Ida Strasmick and niece Debbie Strasmick; his sister Margaret and brother-in-law Henry Guggenheim, nephew Peter Guggenheim and wife Marcela Armoza, niece Nancy and husband Michael Feldman, grandnephew Jason, grandnieces Tracey and Rachel Feldman.
Private interment at Temple Emanu-El Cemetery followed by a Memorial Service and reception August 24, 2016 12:30 P.M. at Temple Emanu-El, 8500 Hillcrest, Dallas officiated by Rabbi Debra J. Robbins.
