Preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Stephen Morris Evans Jr.
Children: Stephen Morris Evans III of New York City, William Arnold Evans and his wife Marci of Plano and Jenny Wennerberg and her husband Evan of Plano.
Grandchildren: Katie Wennerberg, Steven Wennerberg, Emily Evans and Sarah Evans, all of Plano.
She moved to Dallas when she was three. She was valedictorian of Hillcrest High School class of 1947. While earning her BFA in music at the University of Colorado at Boulder and later at Southern Methodist University, she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta.
She moved to New York City in 1958 and returned to Dallas in 1962.
A soprano, she began singing professionally when she was 15. In addition to performing on local radio and television, she sang for hundreds of weddings and funerals throughout the Dallas area. In New York, she sang at venues including Carnegie Hall. She worked in the insurance industry for many years. She did volunteer work to teach kids about opera and astronomy. However, she most desired to be a wife and mother. She was a Cub Scout den mother and Camp Fire Girl leader.
A member of the Church of Christ, she belonged to several different congregations in Dallas and New York.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8pm Monday, February 4 at Sparkman-Hillcrest funeral home. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 5 at 10am at Highland Oaks Church of Christ in Plano. Donations of canned food and non-perishable items for “Mayme’s Room” at LifeSource will be accepted at the memorial service.
Bill Shepard of the Highland Oaks Church of Christ in Plano will conduct the service.
