Melba Darlene Thomas

Funeral Service will be held at Grove Hill Funeral Home on Saturday, May 7 at 10:30 AM with Reverend Ken Hicks, Bethel Hill Assembly of God Church officiating. Burial will follow at Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas, TX.

Darlene was born in Dallas to Ernest "Sterrett" and Daltha Mae Bratcher on February 7, 1947. She attended H. Grady Spruce High School in Dallas and graduated in 1965. In December of 1969, Darlene went to church in Rylie to hear Rev. James Thomas preach. She met James brother there named Jerry "Dennis" Thomas. Three weeks later Dennis and Darlene were engaged and on July 17, 1970 they were married. Darlene worked in an office for years at a company in Dallas where several members of her family worked called Southern Nipple Company where they made pipe fittings for plumbing and oil field supply. Later she worked for Dalco Athletics in Garland, Texas and Software Spectrum, also in Garland, Texas. She and Dennis lived in Pleasant Grove until their youngest daughter started elementary school and then they moved to Garland, Texas. When Darlene's parents had both passed away, they bought her parent's home in Trinidad, Texas and that is where they lived out their days. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and loved them all very much. She loved gardening and sure had a green thumb. She also enjoyed watching NASCAR and Dallas Cowboys Football.

Darlene is preceded in death by her loving husband Dennis, her darling daughter Cheryl Thompson, and by both her parents, Sterrett and Daltha.

Darlene is survived by her youngest daughter, Evelyn Adams and her husband Bobby of Emory, TX; her son-in-law Charles Thompson of La Center, WA; three grandchildren Dean Thompson, Scarlett Thompson, and Dylan Adams; four great-grandsons Jacob Thompson, Damien Thompson, Hunter Thompson, and Carson Daniels, and two great-granddaughters Raeleigh Daniels and Artemis Thompson. She is also survived by her older sister Bettie Nesbit and her husband Donnie, and her younger sister Louise Boyd and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members who she loved so much.
