Michael "Mike" Wayne Kral passed away on the morning of Thursday, October 20, 2011 in Waxahachie, TX at the age of 56. Mike courageously and without complaint battled cancer for over two years with his devoted wife, Ann, by his side. Mike passed away peacefully at his home in Waxahachie surrounded by his loving family.
Mike was born and raised in Dallas. He attended St. Cecilia Catholic School, Bishop Dunne High School, graduated from Sunset High School and attended Mountain View College. Mike achieved the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 14. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow and also earned the Ad Altare Dei Award and Oak Leaf Junior Leader Training Award.
Mike and Ann were partners as Beseda (Czech folk dance) dancers. They performed annually at the Texas State Fair on Czech Day and at other events. Mike was a leader of the teen group at the Catholic Czech Club and was active in the KJT.
Mike lived in the Oak Cliff area for 45 years, devoting his life to his family, the family business Al Kral Automotive, Inc. where he worked as an automotive technician, service advisor, and office manager and was part owner and President. He also devoted much time to St. Cecilia Catholic Church and School where he served on the school board, carnival committee, and church finance council for several years in addition to spending countless hours improving the building. Mike acquired the donation of the school's first educational computers. After moving to Waxahachie in 1999, Mike became a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and volunteered as a door greeter, even while undergoing chemo treatments.
Mike was one of six children born to Alfonse and Helen Hornak Kral. Mike is preceded in death by his father, Alfonse. Mike was the beloved husband of Ann McGann for over 36 years. Mike will forever be remembered by his brothers Gary, Richard, and Steve Kral, loving sisters Julie Majors and Janna Berg, beloved children Michaela Kral, Andrea Murphy and Patricia Kral, treasured grandchildren Coy and Gunner Murphy, caring in-laws Wes Murphy, Valarie Kral, Angie Kral, Paul Berg, Arlene McGann, Joseph and Barbara McGann, Mike McGann, Phil McGann, John McGann, Don and Teresa Vinson and Kay McGann, thirteen nephews and five nieces, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him.
Mike loved nature, fishing, hunting, hiking and woodworking. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, Ann, watching birds and butterflies in their garden as well as sunrises and sunsets from their home.
Mike touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity. He will be missed for his love, his advice and his courageousness. Friends and family are invited to the viewing on Sunday, October 23, 2011 from 4:00p to 8:00p with a rosary to be recited at 7:00p at Calvary Hill Funeral Home, 3235 Lombardy Ln, Dallas, TX 75220. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 24, 2011 at noon at Calvary Hill in the North Mausoleum Chapel at 3235 Lombardy Ln, Dallas, TX 75220-3338.
