She was born in Dallas, Texas on January 24,1926 to Margaret and JC Lindsey. Born of the Greatest Generation, she lived through the Great Depression and World War II giving her an early foundation of patriotism, strength and tenacity.
Having lost her mother at an early age, she went to live with her beloved grandmother, Nora Smith Patterson. She attended City Park Elementary and St. Joseph's Catholic Schools where she was a member of the Glee Club. She often spoke fondly of her grandmother and the sisters of St. Joseph who instilled in her the love of Christ and the importance of being a caretaker and nurturer to her loved ones.
She married her one and only sweetheart, Edward Anthony Matthias on December 7,1944 and began her life as wife and homemaker in Dallas, Texas. Blessed with four daughters; Sharon, Susan, Cynthia and Kelly, she took her role of matriarch, mother and wife seriously and devoted her time gardening, volunteering as room mother and at school events and keeping her girls well tressed, dressed and blessed. Every night she had dinner on the table and Sunday Mass and Holy Days were never missed.
Mickey’s blessings continued with the births of eight grandchildren; Lea, Guy, Amy, Jonathan, Christopher, Courtney, Matthias and J.R. all whom she adored and was always most proud. Those closest to her knew of her love of perfectly wrapped presents, flowers, playing Candy Crush, Solitaire, Scrabble, Dominoes, Crossword Puzzles, Stephen King books, scary movies, Snicker Bars and George Strait. She was passionate, highly intelligent and had a wicked sense of humor.
