Ruth “Mildred” Fallon, a daughter, sister, wife, mother, Mamaw, Big Mamaw, aunt and friend of many, left this earthly world to join the Choir of Angels in Heaven on the evening of May 26, 2017 at 93 years young. She was born on January 24, 1924 to the blessed union of William Arthur Sessums and Margaret Theobald Sessums in Dallas, Texas. While attending St. Edward’s Catholic High School in Dallas, she met Robert Frances Fallon. After she graduated, they married in June 1943. They moved to Irving, Texas in the late 40’s and established a home where they would be blessed with six successful children: Kathleen Bates, Margaret Fallon & Ted Lemonovich, Anne Gordon (Gary), Mary Bridget Kemper (Fred), Roberta Rogers & Fred Henke and Timothy Fallon (Susan). Bob and Mildred liked to travel so the family took many camping trips throughout the United States. She was the ultimate gardener and spent many hours tending to her picturesque yards. Once the children were grown, they continued their travels to Hawaii, Mexico and Canada. Bob sadly passed away in 1984 leaving Mildred to dote on their children and grandchildren. Traveling continued to be one of her hobbies visiting Alaska and many foreign countries including Ireland, Israel, Czech Republic and Italy. The family joke was did anyone know what state she was in as she loved to get in her mini-van and drive all over, especially to the mountains of New Mexico. It was a special place for the family since 1963. She and Bob built a cabin on a mountain-side in Red River NM around 1980 and it became the family gathering place to get away from the Texas summer heat. Fishing, hiking, shopping and just relaxing were always the activities of the day when in the mountains. Mildred had a passion for arts and crafts from jewelry and seasonal decor to quilts and afghans. Many of the children have benefited from the fruits of her artistic labors. At her passing, she was an active member of the Catholic Daughters and had been for many years. The parish of St. Luke’s Catholic Church and School in Irving were special to her as she served on many committees’ including the Altar Society and church choir for decades. She was a room mother, playground monitor, cafeteria helper, Girl Scout troop assistant and always willing to help any way she could. In 2008, she moved to Kingwood, Texas to be closer to her two oldest daughters and other family members migrating to the area. With the help of family, she was still able to travel to Mexico on a family vacation and visited all her children spread throughout the Great State of Texas. Mildred was predeceased by her parents, the love of her life Bob, her four sisters and brothers-in-law Aleene/Vane Hawkins, Dorothy/Hershel Waugh, Marie/Al Zalman and Martha Rita Sessums (infant), brothers/sister-in laws George Meletio, Jim/Elizabeth Haley, Charles Fallon, sons-in-law Tom Bates and Byron Rogers, great-granddaughter Rachel Nicole Bates, great-grandson Arran Scott Weir. She is survived by her 6 children, 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren (with another due in September), sisters-in-law Marie Meletio, Pat Fallon and an army of nieces, nephews and friends. Mildred will be laid to rest with Bob at Calvary Hill Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. She will be missed greatly, but she is home.
