Mildred England Kemp was born on January 28, 1933, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to Ada Cheney England and Howard Samuel England. She was the youngest of nine children, a role that shaped her warmth, resilience, and deep appreciation for family. She passed away peacefully at home on April 2, 2026 in Mesquite, Texas, surrounded by the love of those she held dear.
Mildred lived a life rooted in deep faith, quiet strength, and generous love. A devoted Christian, she was a proud and faithful member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church for over 70 years. Her service to the church was tireless and joyful—most notably through teaching Sunday school for over 50 years, shaping generations of children in their understanding of God’s Word, including her beloved and only granddaughter, Danna.
On April 11, 1953, Mildred married the love of her life, George Daniel “Dan” Kemp. Together, they built a marriage grounded in faith, devotion, and hard work. They were longtime owners and operators of Texas Paint and Wallpaper Co., a family business that became both a livelihood and a legacy—one defined by perseverance, integrity, and sacrifice for future generations.
Mildred was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a proud grandmother, and a joyful great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Karen Kemp Alvino and her husband Paul of Sunnyvale, and Kathy Kemp Hardy and her husband Bob of Plano; her granddaughter, Danna Cook Lockett and her husband Jay of Austin; and her treasured great-granddaughters, Kate, Leighton, and Taylor Lockett, who were the delight of her later years.
She was a woman of simple joys and steadfast habits. She loved books, music, singing hymns with her whole heart, and traveling with family and friends. She had a well-known weakness for sweets and an equally well-known habit of starting a new diet every Monday. She never hesitated to show up, serve, or give of herself.
Mildred lived by clear and unwavering principles: put Christ first, love your family unconditionally, love others as yourself, serve generously, and do at least one good thing for someone every day. That “one good thing” often took the form of a handwritten card, a phone call, a home-cooked meal, a hospital visit, or quiet encouragement offered without expectation of recognition. She believed no one should ever feel forgotten.
Her legacy is not only found in the lives she touched, but in the faith she modeled so consistently. We rejoice in knowing that she is in heaven, that she is reunited with her beloved Dan, and that her daughters, granddaughter, and great-granddaughters will continue to be a living reflection of the love, faith, and service she embodied.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Pleasant Grove Christian Church, 1324 Pleasant Dr., Dallas, TX 75217. A reception will follow at the church immediately after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Christian Church and/or the Alzheimer’s Association.
