Nell Jones Evans, age 90, died on January 28, 2021, in her residence, The Auberge at Plano. She was born October 6, 1930, in Winnsboro, Texas, to Boyce and Ruth Ruple Jones. She graduated from Winnsboro High School with honors in 1948, having been crowned Football Queen. That same year she left Winnsboro to attend Dallas college and SMU. Nell sang in church choirs for most of her active life, under which circumstances she met her husband of 50 years, Robert Yates Evans. She worked alongside Robert in his dual professions throughout their life together: she sang in and helped coordinate the activities of the St. Luke’s and St. Matthew’s Episcopal choirs (both in Dallas) and numerous others. Nell also worked for many years as administrative assistant in Robert’s CPA firm; she was a member of CPA Wives for 47 years, having served as President with the organization.
She was predeceased by her husband Robert, and her son Robert Evans, Jr. She is survived by her son, John Evans and his wife Donna of Richardson, TX, and her son Charles Evans of Myrtle Beach, SC; and five grandchildren: Kyle and Laura Evans of Dallas, TX; Rachel, Charlotte and Sharen Evans of Myrtle Beach, SC.
