Nellie Faye Smith

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Nellie Faye Smith on August 27th, 2025, at the age of 85 in Red Oak, Texas. She was a devoted wife, nurturing mother and a cherished grandmother.

Nellie was born on September 21, 1939, in Greenville, Texas to Harvey and Viola Mize. She grew up in Greenville and was a proud graduate of Greenville High School. She married the love of her life, James Ralph Smith from Quinlan, Texas on December 27, 1957. She became a homemaker to raise their two sons, Shannon and Matthew. They resided in Oak Cliff for 14 years then moved to DeSoto, Texas until 2022.

Nellie dedicated her life to her family and was known for her cooking, taking photos and spoiling her children and grandchildren. She became a talented cook with the joy of cooking for her family. Her legacy is one of love, patience, wisdom and a home filled with warmth and laughter.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Ralph Smith and her oldest son, James Shannon Smith, siblings Harvey Mize Jr, Janet Sanders, Roger Mize, and Evelyn Elliot. She is survived by her loving son, Matthew and wife Maria Smith, daughter in law Shannon Smith, grandchildren Alexandria and husband Nick Patrick, Zachary and partner Grace Lynn, Keegan Smith, Faith Smith, great grandchildren, Elijah Lynn, Emma Lynn-Smith, and Oliver Patrick, siblings, David Mize, Sam Mize, Milton Mize, Anthony Mize, Wilma Mize, Keith Mize, Brenda Heath. Also, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss her dearly.

A visitation for Nellie will be held Thursday, September 11, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6300 South R.L.Thornton Frwy, Dallas, TX 75232.

A funeral service will occur Friday, September 12, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 6300 South R.L.Thornton Frwy, Dallas, TX 75232.

A graveside service will occur Friday, September 12, 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Laurel Land Memorial Park, 6300 South R.L.Thornton Frwy, Dallas, TX 75232.
