

Nigel Charles Stewart, (Rod), died peacefully at home on June 25, 2012 at the age of 87 surrounded by his family. He was born September 25, 1924 at Southend-On-Sea, England, the son of Charles and Evelyn (Keene) Stewart. He married Fredna Anne Schroeder on July 10th, 1954 and together they enjoyed 57 years raising their family and Cocker Spaniels in Dallas along with enjoying their many lifelong friends. Following the English tradition of preparatory boarding school, Nigel attended and graduated The Hill School in Pottstown, PA. He was known by his classmates as Nimrod, after the Greek God of Hunting & Fishing, for his love and joy of these sports. After graduation, Nigel attended Texas A&M University for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Army Airforce. He served as Flight Engineer on B-17 and B-29 flight crews. In the service his nickname, Nimrod, was shortened to Rod. After the war he attended and graduated Southern Methodist University, Class of 49.
Rod was an Aircraft Design Engineer specializing in airframe design. He worked for many years at Chance Vought, LTV Aerospace and Bell Helicopter. Rod was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, Brook Hollow Golf Club, Park City Club, Happy Warriors, Park Cities YMCA and The Church of the Incarnation, Episcopal Church, Dallas, Texas.
Rod is survived by his loving wife Fredna Anne Stewart of Dallas, son Charles Robert Stewart (Chuck) and John Bergner of Dallas, Texas and daughter Lee Anne Stewart DeMonbreum and Steve DeMonbreum of Roanoke, Virginia. Rod is also survived by loving family in England, most notably his cousin Elizabeth Keene Sadik and husband Julian Sadik of London, and many special cousins including Romany Sadik of London and Sarah Boose of Long Melford.
The Stewart family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Tony Das, Vicky Scobel, the entire staff of Civa Physicians and Presbyterian hospital and all others who showed such compassion in Rod’s care. The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 29th at 3:00pm at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, Dallas. Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday June 28th at Sparkman-Hillcrest, Dallas. After the funeral service a Celebration of Life dinner reception will be held at The Park City Club.
