Norma Jean Mays-Farmer-Pitman was born on January 21, 1927 in Huntington, West Virginia, to Harlow Mays and Gladys Irene Williams. Norma was a beloved mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a great-great-grandmother. For most, she was Granny, Granny P, and Nennie. Norma passed away at the age of 97 on May 17, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ed Farmer and Bill Pitman; son, William Farmer; daughters, Penelope Snavley, Karen Guffy, and Francis Farmer; grandchildren, Angelic and Patricia French; brothers, Jack, Jerry, and Ronnie Mays; sisters, Delores and Phyllis Rowe. Norma is survived by daughter, Linda Watson and son-in-law, Billy Watson; son, Edward and his wife, Venecia Farmer; daughter-in-law, Jody Farmer; grandchildren, Misty and husband, Robbie Pearson; Jason and wife, June Farmer; William and wife, Beth Watson; Wendy Ausbrooks; Brandon and wife, Terri Farmer; Sonja, Audrea, and Candace Farmer; great-grandchildren, Jake, Rowdy, Ben, Wyatt, Grant, Triston, Trinity, Dalton, Caleb and many more; great-great-grandchild, Bennett and possibly many more as well.
Norma never met a stranger. She had lots of friends. She loved to collect turtles and loved dogs, she had many: Snooty, Sugar, Peaches, Liz, Snoodles and many more. She loved the movie Gone With the Wind, She loved to listen to the Bee Gees. She loved reading Ann Ruth books. Most of all, she loved to sew and go to the casino.
She lived in many states throughout her life. She has lived in Texas for the last 65 years. She worked for Hostess Bakery, Faberge Cologne, and a few mini-storages as a secretary. She retired to Crescent Manor Apartments and lived at Golden Acres Nursing home where she enjoyed playing bingo, collecting stuffed animals, rolling up and down the halls in her wheelchair, and just tried to find joy each day being Norma.
