She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John Porter Ownby, their daughter Tricia and son-in-law Marc McCollom, and two granddaughters Kiera and Ailsa McCollom, all of Dallas, TX.
She is also survived by her sister Carlyn Elder of Oak Hill, VA. She was preceded in death by her sister Margaret Yeaman of Austin, TX.
Pat was born in Cuero, TX. She graduated as valedictorian of Cuero High School. She attended Southern Methodist University and graduated with a Bachelor in Music and a Masters in Music Education. She received her Ph.D. in Education from Texas Woman’s University.
She began her career teaching reading in Garland and Plano Independent School Districts. She continued to work with Plano ISD for 28 years, rising to become its Director of Special Education and later its Director of Academic Services for Curriculum.
She was a member of the Junior League of Dallas, the Dallas Woman’s Club, and an associate member of the Dallas Petroleum Club. She was a former member of the Junior Group of the Dallas Garden Club and the Dallas Daffodil Society. She played the piano and the violin, was a skilled cook, and was known as a generous hostess.
