Patsy Jo Platt was born to Odessa Ray Platt and Joseph Edward Platt, Jr. on September 3, 1931. Her father worked as a highly-demanded machinist in the oil business throughout Texas and Louisiana. Patty attended several elementary schools as a result. After the pre-war and wartime oil boom subsided, her family settled in Longview, Texas, where she attended Pine Tree Elementary. She later graduated from Longview High School, where she played clarinet in the Lobo Band, in 1948. She loved playing the clarinet and would have continued, but her selfless nature coerced her to donate her clarinet to a boy in her neighborhood who wanted to learn to play, but whose family couldn’t afford one.
She attended North Texas State University, now University of North Texas, and graduated after three years. She determined that her future was in Dallas, not Longview, as she had made many good friends there. Patty taught Texas History for two years, and joined DeGolyer and McNaughton, a major oil and gas firm.
In late 1960, she met Richard H. Bramblett, and they married a year later on December 9, 1961. Patty was a serious and formidable bridge player, and she and Richard were members of the same bridge club for many years. She is a past president of the March of Dimes and a founder of the Arboretum Guild.
Above all else, Patty’s greatest accomplishments were her devotion to her husband and raising and nurturing her six children. They were the greatest loves of her life.
Patty is preceded in death by her husband, parents, son, Richard Hendrix Bramblett, Jr., brother, George Ray Platt and sister, Nancy Lee Platt Kaebnick. She is survived by her five remaining children, Linda Bramblett Tagg and husband Eric Tagg, Sandra Bramblett Tigert and husband Bill Tigert, Nancy Bramblett Wetzel and husband Mark Wetzel, Amy Bramblett Emerson and husband Jon Emerson, Jill Bramblett and partner Susan Vanover, 15 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many other loving family members and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dallas Arboretum. Memorial Services are scheduled for Saturday, June 29 at 12:00 pm with a reception following.
