Paul was born in Forest Hills, Pennsylvania on August 30th, 1936, one of four children to Charles and Marie Hauser. He was raised in Pittsburgh where he attended Hampton High School. Upon graduation, he went on to college to earn Bachelors & Masters degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) in 1959, completing both degrees in just 4 years. At Carnegie Tech he completed ROTC, was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, and the Pi Tau Sigma National Honorary Mechanical Engineering Fraternity.
Upon graduation, Paul joined the United States Army Corps of Engineers as a 2nd Lieutenant. After a short period of active service, he finished his military career as a 1st Lieutenant in the Reserves, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1966.
Paul married Carolina Rea in 1958. They relocated to Cherry Hill, New Jersey and had 3 sons there. In 1960, Paul began his professional career as a Mechanical Engineer for the RCA Corporation in Camden, New Jersey. There, he designed communication systems used on the Apollo space missions, video recording systems used during the Cold war, as well as government top secret projects that we still don't know about. He retired in 1993.
After divorce from Carolina, Paul married Sherry Erti-Bruthers in 2000, after a long courtship. Paul & Sherry moved to Silver Spring, Maryland to be closer to family. Paul enjoyed working with computers, writing stock tracking software to analyze & follow his investments, collecting coins, and sipping a Canadian Club cocktail on occasion. Paul & Sherry held an Annual End of Summer BBQ Party that was a great send-off to the summer. It was a regular gathering of their friends & family to catch up and unwind over good food, cold drinks, and bad jokes told by Paul.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents, wife Sherry, brother Walter, and sister Susan. He is survived by his sister Betty Lou, sons Mark (Jeanne) Hauser, Gregory (Terri) Hauser, Douglas (Kim) Hauser, and grandchildren Carl & Claire. He is also survived by his stepchildren Jim (Laurine) Bruthers, Michelle (Mike) Kennedy, Chris (Brooke) Bruthers, and step-grandchildren Rylan, Reece, Cameron, Carter, Emily, and Molly.
Paul will be laid to rest next to his wife Sherry at the All Souls Cemetery in Germantown, Maryland in the coming weeks.
