

She graduated from Highland Park High School and earned a BA from the University of Texas and her MA from SMU. She did further graduate work at the University of North Texas, the University of London, Perkins School of Theology, and Rhode Island School of Design. Paula’s great love of children and her desire to see them grow led her to a career in teaching. She encouraged her students not only to master the lessons before them but to respect each other as creations of God. She challenged students to learn new things daily and to exercise integrity and compassion. She taught art and English at Highland Park High School for over 30 years. She was a professional artist, writer, photographer, and book illustrator. She appreciated the unique natures of God’s smaller creatures and took pleasure in drawing them and photographing them. Paula served as an elder at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, where she had also been a Sunday school teacher, a choir member, and a circle Bible study leader. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, Sigma Delta Pi, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League, the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, and the Mary K. Craig Class.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Allen McEwen Duckworth. She is survived by many loved and loving friends.
A memorial service will be held Monday, November 1, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. in the Northwest Chapel at Sparkman Hillcrest. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. Thank you to the staff at Faith Hospice.
