

Jones Quincy Adams Jr. (Quincy), 96, went to be with the Lord on September 30th, 2020. He was born in Royse City, Texas and graduated from Royse City High School in 1942. Like so many of the greatest generation, Quincy volunteered for military service in WWII in the Army Air Corps as an aviation cadet. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and served as a Bombardier on a B-24 Liberator. He was based in Southern Italy in the 484th Bomb Group and flew 53 missions over targets in Italy, Austria, & Germany. Quincy was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with cluster, European combat medal with 4 major battle stars, and the Presidential Unit Citation. He was released from active duty in November of 1945 with a rank of 1st Lieutenant.
After the war, he attended SMU, class of 1950, where he met his future wife, the beautiful Suzanne Selecman from Glenview IL. Quincy was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity at SMU. Quincy became a lifelong supporter of everything on the Hilltop and in later years served as President & Board Member of the SMU Alumni Club, President of the SMU Dad’s Club, and President & Board Member of the Mustang Club. His lifelong support of Phi Delta Theta at SMU also included Chapter Advisor, Chapter Advisory Board and House Corporation and he spearheaded the Construction Committee to build the current chapter house. Quincy earned the Legion of Honor award from the National Chapter and the “Phi of the Year” Gardner Award. He was co-founder of Dallas Christian Leadership – a Campus Crusade Ministry organization.
Quincy enjoyed a long and successful business career in several fields. He was the campaign manager and a member of Texas Attorney General, John Ben Sheppard’s staff. He was a Vice President of Exchange Bank, and co-founder of City Bank & Trust. Quincy eventually gravitated to real estate as an independent commercial real estate broker in the Dallas area for many years.
Quincy joined the Salesmanship Club of Dallas in 1964. He was mayor of his class and served on many committees throughout his 56 years as a member. He spent every Spring on the golf course volunteering his time at the Byron Nelson Golf Tournament. During recent years at the tournament he enjoyed hosting the military families at the Military Outpost. Quincy was an avid golfer and member of Northwood Country Club where he was the first to tee off every Saturday morning for over 40 years.
Quincy is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Suzanne Selecman Adams; son Wade Adams, his wife Jane Adams, and their grandson Kade of Dallas; daughter Ann Adams Flaherty of Allen, Tx., her daughters Katelyn Flaherty of London, England and Quinlan Flaherty Wood, husband Jeff Wood and their children, Willa, Wilder, and Finley Wood of Allen Tx; daughter Connie Adams Lanham, husband Rink Lanham and their children Luke, Connor, and Gracie Lanham of Southlake Tx. He was preceded in death by his parents Jones Quincy Adams Sr. and Ruby Adams; son in law Bill Flaherty and grandson James Edward (Jed) Flaherty and many other loving friends.
Quincy was a member of Northwest Bible Church and attended the Berean class for 48 years. He had a great faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Quincy loved his family and friends unconditionally and was a hero to many. His faith, family, and friends were the joy of his remarkable life. Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. Jeremiah 17:7. Quincy was truly blessed. He was a great son, loving husband, caring father and super granddad. Quincy was certainly a friend to all. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit and his giant heart.
A private graveside service will be held at the Dallas National Veterans cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, October 14th at 1:30 PM at Northwest Bible Church, 8505 Douglas Ave, Dallas, Texas with a reception following.
