Raymundo Lopez Gonzales, Sr., age 86, passed away on September 19, 2025 in Dallas, TX. He was born on March 15, 1939 in McDade, TX to Ines Gonzales and Maria Magdalena Lopes. Raymundo was raised in Elgin, TX and graduated from Elgin High School in 1959.
In his spare time, Raymundo enjoyed watching baseball, going fishing, hunting and camping. He also dedicated the majority of his life helping the church in different ministries. Growing up in the small town of Elgin, TX, Raymundo was an altar server, which began his journey in serving the church. When he was 18, he attended the fourth Cursillo retreat held in the United States.
Five years later, he enlisted in the army and served from 1962 to 1965. During his military career, he received a Good Conduct Medal, was a Marksman, and a Sharpshooter. They were one of the first couples married in the newly built church in 1967. In 1972, Raymundo made Oak Cliff his home, where he and Hortencia raised their six children and built lifelong friendships. He worked for the City of Dallas for over 25 years and retired as a Relocation Specialist with the Housing and Neighborhood Services Department.
Raymundo and Hortencia volunteered in different ministries such as lectors, eucharistic ministers, catechists, and led marriage preparation classes for several churches in and near the Oak Cliff area. One of their biggest accomplishments were their roles as directors with the Cursillo Movement, Jornada Familiar and Jornada Juvenil retreats. He also had the opportunity to lead rosaries at funerals for various funeral homes across the Dallas area. For the last 23 years, he was a devoted parishioner of Nuestra Señora del Pilar Catholic Church.
He used his love of God and the church to help people whether it be at work or meeting someone new. He and his wife taught their children to pray the rosary starting at a young age and made sure he was a role model for them in serving others and the church.
