He was born in Dallas, TX, the second child to Dorothy “Dottie” Willis and Richard “Gabby” Rex Armstrong. He died from a sudden heart attack. He attended school at Lamar HS, Arlington, TX and the University of Texas at Arlington. He spent his professional career initially at The Eisemann Center as a theater tech where he fulfilled his ambition to manage all aspects of technical production. Later he was employed at D&M Leasing in co-op with Hernco as an IT Administrator. He was extremely grateful for the opportunity to indulge in his passion for both professions and therefore strived to be recognized as a valued and trusted employee. For him, these were not only a job but also a labor of absolute love.
Throughout his youth he always exhibited an inquisitive and investigative frame of mind about the ‘who, why, what, and how’ of things worked. He would be more interested in taking a train set apart and laying out all the pieces of the engine, rather than just playing with the train itself fully intact. This love for discovery continued throughout his adult life. An array of things he enjoyed ranged from plumbing, to sewing, to gardening, to watching lots of TikTok, and helping out friends in any number of situations or endeavors. Every opportunity to learn and master an activity was not to be missed. He really enjoyed music—Jazz and Show Tunes—while also enjoying a variety of cuisines from many, diverse cultures. When not traveling, working, or diving into cinematic features he would read a ton of books, tech news, and news of the day. Thanks to his Life Partner, Jamie, he learned that travel was not a chore but rather a truly enjoyable experience. They were always seeking out the next, best travel adventure.
Richard is survived by his loving partner, Jamie Glistenburg; his parents, Dorothy (Dottie) & Richard (Gabby) Armstrong; his sister, Julia Dori Armstrong with her love, Joe Bruce. He is also survived by 9 aunts, 7 uncles, 14 cousins and with all the other members of a huge, supportive and extended family.
