Richard Segura Sr was born April 9, 1927 In Maysville, Oklahoma and passed away peacefully January 26, 2021 at Golden Acres Living and Rehabilitation Center Dallas, Texas at the age of 94.
Born the eldest child to Felipe and Marguerita (Riojas) Segura. Richard spent his early years in Cameron, TX. On the maternal side Richard was a descendent of Jose Olivarri and Geronimo De La Garza who were early founders of San Antonio. On the paternal side, his ancestors moved to and farmed in Texas since the 1860’s. He was educated in the schools (public) schools and in 1945 enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Richard proudly served from July 1945 to August 1946 serving in the American, European and Pacific theaters, and achieving the rank of Private First Class. After leaving the service, Richard returned to Texas where he met and married the Love of his life, Adelfa Castro in 1950.
If you ask any of his grandchildren, they could all recount stories told by Grandpa. One day, as told by John Segura, happened after a return from battle. They were resupplying at a U.S. port and Richard caught one of his fellow shipmates falsely requisitioning a whole chicken before disembarking for leave. When Richard confronted his shipmate , the shipmate said it was for his family so Grandpa Segura let him go on his way. Being a grandpa was truly a joy to his life.
Richard and Adelfa settled in Dallas where they started and raised their family, Richard worked many years at Fort Worth Steel and Machinery and Bass and Hayes where he was proudly the “boss” working as foreman. He took pride in owning his own business and molded many works of arts for his clients.
Richard was baptized at Santa Rosa Catholic Church and attended St. Bernard Clairvaux Catholic Church.
Family and Friends were the most important people in Richard’s life. Cookouts and family gatherings were a regular occurrence at the Segura House. If you needed a hand with anything, you could count on Richard to help you. You could bring a problem to Richard and rely on his broad life experiences and deep intelligence to figure out a solution to help ease your burden.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Mary Louisa, Olivia and Lucinda.
Richard is survived by his wife, Adelfa, his children Richard Segura Jr., Morris Segura, Ruben Segura (Lisa Carlson) and Linda (Jerome) his grandchildren, Misty Price (Phillip) Joanie Flanagan (Mark) Angela Rivera( Luis) Crescencio, (Jessica) April Bittenbender (Toby) Kristin Lyons (Corey) John Segura, Anthony Moore: his great grandchildren Sabrina Reese (Khari) Caleb Price, Cynthia Reyes, Cayden Reyes, and Dakota Lyons: his sisters Marcia Rangel (Carlos) and his brother Samuel Segura (Mary).
Richard (Richey) will always be remembered by his family and friends for his big, generous heart and quick sense of humor. He will forever be in our hearts for the light he brought to our lives. If you knew Richard, you were lucky because you had a friend for life.
