He was born an only child in Harbin, China where his parents, Anna and Boris Blumin, lived after leaving Russia. They migrated to America in 1937 when Robert was just one year old. As a child he loved baseball and pitched for USC, a career which he gave up to pursue architecture. After 61 years in Los Angeles, many buildings there are a testament and a legacy
to his passions of design and structure. Robert oversaw construction of the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles and stayed on to become its Chief Administrative Officer. He was a generous supporter of the Skirball, Temple Shalom Dallas, Israel's Bnai Zion Hospital and a host
of other charitable causes.
He is survived by his Wife of 53 years, Carolee; son Craig Blumin and daughter-in-law Gladys; daughter Janet Sackin and son-in-law Michael; daughter Diane Blumin; and grandchildren Sara Blumin, Rachel Blumin, Spencer Sackin and Sydney Sackin.
