Born July 15, 1928 in New Orleans, Louisiana, Mr. Taylor was the son of Methodist minister Byron C. Taylor and Addie Bernice Taylor. Bob attended Duke University on a tennis scholarship where he was a member and President of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He was a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa honor society and graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1949. He went on to graduate from Duke Law School in 1952 where he served as an associate editor of the Duke Law Journal. Bob was awarded the Charles A. Duke Award in 2008 for his longstanding support and service to the school.
Mr. Taylor served as a Major, J.A.G.C. for the U.S.A.R. during the Korean War. He received his L.L.M. and S.J.D. degrees in Taxation from Georgetown University in 1956 and 1958 and served as a senior attorney for the U.S. Tax Court and a commissioner of the U.S. Court of Military Appeals during this time.
Over the years, as a partner of the law firm Taylor Lohmeyer, LLP and its predecessors, Mr. Taylor drafted complex legislation and key amendments to the U. S. federal tax and pension laws working with Senator Lloyd Bentsen. He contributed tax articles to The Wall Street Journal and authored his own novel, a legal thriller, The Secret Trust. Bob was a member of the American Bar Association and was a member of the State Bar of Texas for over 50 years.
Bob served on the board of directors and as past chair of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. He also served as past chair and board of trustees for the Highland Park United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school. He was a longstanding member of the Dallas Country Club where he was an avid golf and tennis player.
Though his law practice was a big part of his life, nothing overshadowed the love and devotion Bob had for his family. He is survived by his wife Cornelia (Teddy) Taylor, daughter Janet Mountz and son-in-law Timothy W. Mountz, step-daughter Stephanie Flower and son-in-law John Flower, sister Lee Ann Solomon and husband Tom Solomon, and grandchildren Taylor Anne Ramsey and husband Zach Ramsey, Christina Mountz, Charlotte Flower and Sarah Flower.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday March 17, 2016 at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, TX 75205 in the main sanctuary.
