After graduating Glenwood High School in 1955, he went to Ohio University on a baseball scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering in 1959. Ron was a proud Bobcat and served on the board of Alumni at Ohio University and established the Ronald L. Patrick Endowed Scholarship to benefit engineering students from his hometown of New Boston, OH.
Ron began his business career in Mount Vernon, Ohio, at Cooper Bessemer, which subsequently involved several promotions and relocations, until he finally settled in Dallas, Texas, in 1979 with his family. He continued his career as an executive for aviation services companies, including Cooper Industries, Cooper Airmotive, Aviall and Ryder Systems, until his retirement in 1997.
In his spare time, Ron officiated both high school and college football and basketball games, working in the Ohio, Missouri Valley and Mid-American conferences. Ron was also an avid golfer and an active member of Royal Oaks Country Club, where he won the Royal Oaks Senior Club Championship and served on the Board of Governors for three years. Ron and his wife Barbara enjoyed attending major sporting events, dancing and traveling the world together.
Left to treasure Ron’s memory is wife of 43 years, Barbara; his children Brenda Rabideau of San Antonio, TX, Steven Patrick of San Antonio, TX, Craig Patrick and wife Debi of Bolingbrook, IL, Kelli DeShan of Garland, TX, and Kevin Hain of Dallas, TX; niece: Vicki Miller and husband Craig of Hilliard, OH; grandchildren: Bonnie Sue Hulse and husband Jacob of Richmond, TX, Stephen Martin of San Antonio, TX, Jenna and Baylee Patrick both of Chicago, IL; as well as 7 great-grandchildren. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bill Patrick and sister Edith Patrick. Finally, special mention to Ron’s caregivers who were a blessing and much appreciated.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be held on Sunday, December 5, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, Chapel East.
