Early on in life, her mother made sure the family knew God and attended church on a regular basis. Sheryl attended H.B. Plant High School in Tampa. She received the Principal’s Honor Roll Award her junior and senior year and graduated with honors.
In 1990, Sheryl and her son, Anthony Sims, moved to Dallas, Texas where she began motivational teaching and speaking throughout the area. She joined The Potter’s House Church where she served faithfully on the Potter’s House prayer ministry. In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother to Anthony, in 1997, Sheryl became an ordained minister after God called her to spread her message of faith and perseverance to others through public service. She would develop a close friendship with Elder Shirley Russell and become administrator for Sent Out Women Ministries.
Being a hard worker who praised efficiency, Sheryl was always striving to make improvements where necessary. In 2011 while battling Spinal Stenosis, at the incredible age of 55, Sheryl earned her Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Education from Dallas Baptist University. She was an active member in her community. She attended the Desoto Citizen Police Academy and Drug Busters, presented by Turning Point Church, completed The Creative Process as a Model for Spiritual Care of Children training, worked with Anthem Strong Families, numerous nonprofit organizations and served as a Glenn Heights Electoral Judge for the 2020 Presidential election.
All who knew her would agree that Sheryl was a pillar of the community. She lived her life with her feet firmly on the ground, planted in God’s promises. Always willing to share her gifts, ideas, and knowledge for the benefit of others so that they could accomplish more in their lives. Sheryl did her best to ensure that her family, friends, loved ones, and everyone whose life she touched was given the chance to be a better person. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her.
Sheryl joins her parents, Mary Frances and Earl Lane Sr., and best friends, Linda Griffin and Dimetria “Bunnie” Blakely, in heaven. She is survived by her son, Anthony Sims (Amber), her beloved fur baby, Prada J, her brothers, Earl Lane, Jr. (Sharon) and Darrell Lane, Sr., her stepmother Willie Mae Lane, and a host of family, friends and loved ones.
