In 1920 the Solomonsons moved to Dallas, Texas where Sid Sr. started the Dixie Disinfectant Co., in which four generations of Solomonsons eventually worked and built their family based business.
Sidney Solomonson Jr. attended Bradfield Elementary School in the Highland Park area of Dallas, and went to become the Valedictorian of Highland Park High School. He then received a Chemical Engineering degree from Rice University, and returned to Dallas to join Sid Sr. in running Dixie, the family business.
In 1939 Sid married Minnie Feferman from Amarillo, Texas and had their first son, Gerald in 1940. Sid was drafted into WWII where he served at the Battle of the Bulge, and received two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star for acts of valor, saving fellow soldiers in acts of heroism that he performed. After the War, recuperating from frostbite, in Paris he was able to document the post war time with a photo album that started his favorite hobby other than fishing, in which he left behind multiple volumes of photography for his family and friends to re-visit a life of cityscapes, landscapes, friends, and travels. Upon returning from Europe, he rejoined the family business, and in 1947 had Stanley, his second child.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, achieving the 32nd Degree, and was active in the Scottish Rite. While building the core chemical manufacturing and distribution business, Sid branched into waste management with the acquisition of Texas Industrial Disposal Inc, (TIDI), the Dallas trash transport company which Sid later sold TIDI to Waste Management.
Always wanting to spend time with the growing family, and enjoy new vistas, catch more fishing time, after selling Dixie, Sid and Minnie made the move to Padre Island. Minnie became the Judge, then Mayor of So. Padre, while Sid enjoyed being the "Captain".
He is survived by a loving family of two sons, Gerald and Stanley, four grandchildren, Stacey, Mindy, Andrea, and Adam, and five great grandchildren, Aaron, Jacob, Sophia, Lauren, and Gabriel. Donations can be made to Shriners Hospitals
