

Sonia Libby Sandler passed away peacefully Monday morning. Sonia was born on May 1, 1924, in Mir, Russia, the third child of Meyer and Gitel Sandler. She is preceded in death by her husband, Manuel M. Sandler, brothers Jack Sandler and Ben Sandler. Sonia is survived by her children, Benny Sandler and his wife, Nancy, and their children Gregory, Joshua (Kristen), and Meagan Roberts (Jay); Silvia Sandler Kent and her husband Charles and his children Jennifer Autry (Jimmy), and Chip Kent; and Fabian Sandler and his wife, Sally Jo, and their children, Evan and Jacob; seven great-grandchildren and many loved nieces and nephews. Sonia was not just her family's matriarch, she was also a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, great grandmother, and good friend. She had a keen sense of humor and wit, a love of geography and music, and a very strong sense of family that she instilled within her children Benny, Silvia, and Fabian. Although we will all miss Sonia dearly, we are so very grateful to have known her, loved her, and shared our lives with her. We love you, Mami!! Funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Northwest Highway Chapel. Interment will follow at Shearith Israel Cemetery on Dolphin Road. Sonia and her family migrated to Havana, Cuba in 1925. Sonia married Manuel in 1948, and moved to Dallas, Texas in 1963. Sonia lived a long, honorable and dignified life. She touched the lives of many people. Sonia will be sorely missed for generations to come.
