

Thaddeus Irving Woodward passed away at 11:17am on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at the age of eighty nine. He was born in Wiggins, MS, October 18,1929, and was the 2nd out of 6 children to the late Luther & Florence Woodward, Sr. He married the late Louvinia Mary Sylve October 31, 1950.
Thaddeus attended George Washington Carver High & at the age of 17 his parents signed to enlist him into the military (Army) from 1948-1968.Sergeant Major Woodward completed basic training at Ft. Knox, KY & airborne infantry training at Ft. Benning, GA. He accompanied the 187th Regimental Combat Team to Korea in 1950 & participated in 3 airborne combat jumps under hostile enemy fire. He was nominated for the Congressional Medal of Honor & he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, & Purple Heart.
He then moved his family to Dallas after retirement from the Army. In 1970 he became the first minority Exxon Dealer in University Park, where he formed "Sarges Corporation" and operated several Exxon Stations in the Dallas area until 2001.
Thaddeus is preceded in death by his father(Luther, Sr.), mother (Florence), wife (Louvinia of 63 years), sister (Katherine), sister (LaVern), & sister (Ethel). He is survived by his two daughters Sheila B. Woodward-Morgan and Janice L.Woodward; sister Mary Helen Johnson of Picayune, MS; brother Luther Woodward, Jr. (Juanita) of Dallas, TX; Five grandchildren Mila Morgan McQueen (Oliver), Kira & Ian Morgan, and Jarred & Zane Daniels; Five great-grandchildren Londen, Gizelle, Giles, De'Untrey, & Milan.
Thaddeus was a beloved patriarch of his family, community, church, & friends. He leaves behind a legacy of love & friendship. He will truly be missed by many.
