

Tom was born in Dallas, Texas on July 30, 1933, the son of Ada Grey and Ray Shaw. Tom served honorably in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 and was particularly proud of being a Screaming Eagle in the 101st Airborne Division. Tom was first and foremost a family man. He enjoyed family gatherings and always had a big hug and beautiful smile whenever he greeted friends and family. Tom had a nickname when he was a kid, they called him Hawkshaw after a popular comic strip character of that time. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and travel. Tom was especially devoted to his dog, Junior, and always took long walks with him and traveled everywhere he could with him, much of the time to his son Tom’s hunting ranch in Castroville, Texas, where Tom and his son hunted and spent time together with friends and family. Tom was so in love with the outdoors he would often sleep in his backyard in the suburbs of Euless, Texas under his tent/cot and the outdoors on the Shaw Ranch even though he had a fully equipped camper. He loved to gaze at the stars as he fell asleep. Tom was very devoted to teaching his children and grandchildren how to appreciate the little things in life, taking them on camping trips and exposing them to the beauty of The Chickasaw National Park in Sulphur,Oklahoma and later with his grand daughter, Allison Phillips, to Beaver’s Bend National Park in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. Later in life he often traveled with his son Mark, taking trips to Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Italy and by himself to London and Paris. Tom leaves his three children; Mary A. Pervis (Stacy Pervis, spouse), Thomas C. Shaw (Gloria Shaw, spouse) and Mark E. Shaw; five grandchildren; Allison Phillips, Edie Shaw, Audrey Shaw, Emily Pervis; two great grandchildren, Jordyn Dean and Ty Dean and one brother Dan Wallace as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Ada Grey and Ray Shaw; three brothers, Herbert Wallace, Bud Wallace and John Wallace; three sisters, Iris McDonald, Evelyn Cantwell and Patricia Flowers. The service will be held at Laurel Land Funeral home, 6000 South R.L. Thornton Frwy., Dallas, Texas, November 3, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. The interment will be will held at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery, located at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas. The eulogy will be given by Tom’s brother-in-law, Bob Flowers. Immediately following the interment we will have a catered reception at Laurel Land Funeral Home.
