Thomas James ‘TJ’ Usrey was born on April 2, 2014. After a long, tough battle to recover from open heart surgery, he went to his Heavenly home on July 28, 2014 peacefully in his mother’s arms surrounded by his father and family. TJ was given to us as a special gift to touch hearts and save lives. He gave us a lifetime of happiness during his 4 months here and his legacy will continue to live on through us all. He loved to hold on to his family’s fingers and his lovies and stuffies.
TJ is the son of Thomas and April Usrey and the baby brother of Brooklynn Christopher. His paternal grandparents are Thomas and Karen Usrey; and maternal grandparents are Don Schluter, and Aubrey and Teresa David; His great-grandparents are Elma Usrey, James and Edna Satterwhite, and Gene and Linda David. TJ is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was greeted at the Heavenly Gates by great-grandparents, Thomas William Usrey Jr., Bobby and Dessie Schluter, and T.A. and Betty Patterson whom we know will be looking after him.
Thank you for carrying us through and lifting us up with love, prayers, and support from our church, family, friends, and even generous people we’ve never met. You will never know how much it meant to us and can be sure it will never be forgotten.
A special thank you to his heart Surgeon, Dr. Mendeloff, cardiologist, Dr. Sureka, nephrologist, Dr. Quan, and all of the cardiac intensivists, nurses and staff of the Congenital Heart Surgery Unit at Medical City Children’s Hospital. We would also like to thank our CHSU Childlife Specialist, Brooke Bosserman, family social worker, Jessica Simon, and medical family therapist, Dr. Elizabeth for all of their support.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 1, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 2:00 pm, all at Grove Hill Funeral Home.
