Valentine Rosa Quianes Jr., 52, passed away on February 6, 2025 in Bedford, Texas. Born on June 16, 1972 in Brooklyn, New York to Valentin Quianes of Puerto Rican heritage and Cleona Marie Quianes of Haitian descent, Valentine embodied the rich cultural tapestry of his roots. His life was a vibrant blend of Puerto Rican warmth and Haitian resilience, reflecting the beauty of both cultures in everything he did.
A proud Edward R. Murrow High School graduate in Brooklyn, Valentine carried his love for learning to Stony Brook University and Hofstra University. But academics were just one facet of his dynamic personality. Valentine had a lifelong passion for X-Men comics—Wolverine and Juggernaut were his favorites—and an unmatched enthusiasm for sneakers, making him a connoisseur among friends.
Known as DJ Juggy in the music scene, Valentine was a maestro of house music and freestyle, spinning tracks that brought joy to countless dance floors. He adored classics like "Let the Music Play" by Shannon, "Hot Music" by Soho, and "Planet Rock" by Afrika Bambaataa, blending beats with the same energy and creativity that defined his life. His love for music was infectious, much like his personality.
Valentine had a rare gift: the ability to make you feel like you were the only person in the room. Whether he was sharing a laugh, telling a story about his latest sneaker find, or debating which X-Men character would win in a fight (Wolverine always won), he had a way of making everyone feel seen, heard, and valued. His humor was sharp, his energy electric, and his presence unforgettable.
Beyond music and comic books, Valentine's greatest love was his family. He met Kacy Swain Curtis and moved to Texas where they shared 20 wonderful years of marriage from December 31, 2004, until his passing. Together, they built a life filled with love and cherished memories. He was a devoted father to his daughter Sadé Cleo Quianes and son Jeremiah Valentine "Remy" Quianes. His mother, Cleona Marie Quianes, held a special place in his heart, as did his brothers Edwin Quianes and Bertin Altime. He also shared close bonds with his brothers-in-law Jason Artis, Jesse Artis, and Julian Swain (with wife Elizabeth Gordon-Swain), as well as his sister-in-law Faith Simone Parker (with husband Chris Parker). Extended family includes Emmanuel Duviella and Vanessa Torres, godparents to Sade, as well as close friends who are family beyond blood relation. Valentine was predeceased by his father, Valentin Quianes and his stepfather, Bertin Jean Altime. His extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends will forever remember him with love and admiration.
In addition to his passion for music and family, Valentine was an avid fan of the Washington Commanders. He took great pride in cheering them on through every season and had the joy of witnessing their playoff run this year—a moment that brought him immense happiness.
Valentine’s legacy is one of love, laughter, rhythm, and connection—a testament to a life lived fully and joyously. He will forever be remembered as a husband, father, brother, son, friend, DJ, comic book aficionado, sneakerhead, and most importantly, as someone who made the world brighter simply by being in it.
