Some referred to her as Mother even more referred to her as Grandma, Granny, or Memaw. Vera passed away on June 6th, 2025, in her home in Sunnyvale Texas. She was born on January 10th, 1934, in Morris, County Texas to Zackieriah Taylor Rowe and Carneely Bryant Rowe. She grew up in Dangerfield, Texas with her brothers and sisters Louella, Maxine, Roscoe, Donna Gaye, Mary Catherine, Thelma, Richard, and Dorothy.
Vera married Elwyn Hugh Harris on July 25th, 1951, in Miller County, Arkansas. They lived in a small cabin in Dallas, Texas that didn't have running water but had a spring behind the house on Long Creek Rd. After a tornado hit their home, they moved to Sunnyvale Texas where they lived the remainder of their lives. They had four children together, one boy and three girls. Vera was a member at Tripp Baptist Church in Sunnyvale, Texas where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school.
Vera also accomplished her nursing degree and enjoyed working at Charter Suburban Hospital in Mesquite, Texas. Vera was our family's matriarch, with a heart of gold and virtue of steel. She possessed many unique talents, and to many generations those talents wield her legacy. From gardening and cooking, to canning and cross stitching: to come to Grandmas was to be fed, hugged, and loved.
Vera shared her wisdom with all. She told stories of simpler times. Many have known her, and she loved everyone she met. She lent a listening ear and helped others heal. She viewed her family as her greatest gift. Vera is a strong example of God's grace and what it means to be a victorious woman. We were blessed with this lady who truly lived out love and forgiveness. For the greatest gift of god is love. She was quick to forgive and kept track of no wrongs. To meet her was to be accepted. In her 92 years, her tears were few although her final days were filled with them. Now she is home in Heaven and her pain is no more. May we cherish all her stories and memories for years to come. Rejoice and be glad, for she has gained her wings never to suffer or fell pain again. She has gone before us to prepare a place as she always has. We will see her again one day as she welcomes us home at Jesus's side in paradise. Vera had 11 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 20 great great grandchildren.
Vera is survived by her sister Donna Gaye, her four children and their spouses Joe and Marilyn Harris, Debbie and John Gaylan, Rachel and Micheal Morris and Carolyn and GB Mora.
Vera was preceded in death by her mother, father, sister and brothers. Her husband and two great great grandchildren Ella Pyle and Kyson Mcquire.
