

Vernon Thomas Johnson Jr. was the second child born to Vernon T. Johnson Sr. and Bernice Henderson on April 27, 1959, in Fort Worth, Texas. Vernon accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age; he later joined Faithful Missionary Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas, where he served as a faithful member who truly loved the Lord. He often quoted the scripture “Thou wilt keep him perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” Isaiah 26:3. Vernon graduated from George Washington Preparatory School, in Los Angeles, California in 1978. Vernon attended college and went on to join the military. He was a veteran having served as a member of the United States Navy from 1980 to 1985. He then obtained a commercial license and became a truck driver for the City of Dallas before going over the road as a semi-truck driver enjoying the freedom of traveling all over the U.S. Vernon was united in marriage to Annette Johnson on July 5, 2007. Vernon and Annette met in 1978, they were high school sweethearts. Vernon was an avid sports fan and even played football on his high school team. Whenever you saw him he was sporting his Cowboys Blue! Vernon also enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, traveling, and just making folks laugh. He would say “laughter is good like a medicine.” Surviving to cherish the life, love and memory of Vernon is his wife, Annette Johnson; mother Bernice Henderson; four brothers, Dan Johnson (Juanita Johnson), Connell Johnson (Kelly Johnson), Vincent Johnson (Makeba Johnson), Fredrick Johnson (Tracey Johnson); two sisters, Anita Griffin (George Griffin), and Lydia Johnson; four children Nicole Johnson, Vanessa Johnson, Vernon Johnson III, Vernon Johnson IV; friend Don Harvel; grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends whom all he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his father Vernon T. Johnson Sr. and his sister Vanessa Colbert.
