

After graduating from high school in Westbrook, she attended Hardin-Simmons University, graduating as a business/math major. After graduating, Violet returned to Westbrook to teach high school business and math for a few years. Later, she worked in the business world in Big Spring, Texas and as a teacher in Silver, Texas. She earned a master’s degree from the University of Denver while teaching in Silver.
In 1959 Violet moved to Dallas and taught at Robert S. Hyer Elementary School in the Highland Park ISD for thirty three years. Violet was a valued and much loved 5th grade teacher for the Highland Park ISD.
Violet was active in First Baptist Church in downtown Dallas. She worked with girls on Wednesday evenings for many years, teaching them about mission work and missionaries. She led back-yard Bible schools in the evening at two different areas. In more recent years, she has been active in the senior adult division of the church, serving as co-director and prayer/outreach director for Thee ClassShe read the Bible daily, and her favorite scriptures were Proverbs 3:5-6 and Philippians 4:6-7.
Violet was pre-deceased by her parents and by her brother, Lee Roy Jr. She is survived by Rose Ann McDonald, a cousin whom she served as an “adopted” mother. She is further survived by four other cousins; Sherry Lessener, Bob Odom and David Odom, and Martha Lowke, as well as numerous friends. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 13 at 9am with funeral services immediately following at 10am in Northwest Highway Chapel at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home.
Violet requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be donated to the First Baptist Church of Dallas building fund, the Hardin Simmons University student scholarship fund, or to the charity of your choice.
