

Violeta Barragan Kelly went to be with the Lord on June 25, 2012. Devoted wife to George W. Kelly for 52 years and a caring mother to Marie Kelly Brehm (husband, Dr. David Brehm), George W. Kelly, II (wife, Lisa V. Soghor) and Teresa M. Kelly. She was also a loving grandmother ‘Mama-mama’ to William, Abigail & Cooper Brehm and Kieran & Declan Kelly. Violeta was a woman of conviction and unwavering faith in the Catholic Church. She touched all that crossed her path and each was left with a memory not easy to forget. She loved art, travel, music, dancing, parties and friendships. An accomplished artist, her painting were a style all her own. Born on the family Ranch in Chiclayo, Peru to J. Samuel & Blanca Barragan, the family moved to Lima where she attended the Sacred Heart School along with her five siblings: sisters Cucha, Bertha, Paris, Nelly and brother Pepe. She studied art and design at the Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, where she met and fell in love with her husband, George. Married in Lima on June 19, 1959, they settled in Dallas in 1961 and became early members of the St. Rita Catholic Community where Violeta sang in the choir for many years. Many beloved nieces and nephews in Peru and Philadelphia and her cherished chi Wawa, Pansy, survive Violeta.
A rosary will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at 7:30pm and a funeral mass on Monday, July 2, 2012 at 10:00am, both at St. Rita Catholic Church, 12521 Inwood Rd., Dallas, TX 75244. A reception will immediately follow the mass at Sweeney Hall at St. Rita.
The family asked, in lieu of flowers memorials be made in her name to the St. Rita Parish capital campaign, 12521 Inwood Rd., Dallas, TX 75244.
