

William Rice (Bill) Broocks passed away November 24, 2017 at the age of 92. Bill was born December 18, 1924 in Pharr, TX to Minnie Rice and Ben C Broocks. Bill grew up in Texas graduating from McAllen High School. At the outbreak of World War II, Bill enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific Theater on one of the most decorated submarines of WWII. After the war, he graduated from University of Texas at Austin in 1953 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. On graduation, he went to work for Sun Oil Co. At Sunoco, he ultimately rose to Division Manager controlling international operations and drilling activities in several foreign countries. Upon his retirement, Bill and his wife, Marian, returned from living in Algiers to Dallas. Bill loved the Lord and served his church, Highland Park Presbyterian Church, as Clerk of Sessions for 10 years. Bill is survived by Marian Kern Broocks, his beloved wife of 69 years and his brother, John H. Broocks (Dallas). He is also survived by his three children, Rebecca Broocks Jung (Aubrey, TX), Ben C Broocks (Austin, TX), and Dr. William Rice Broocks, Jr. (Franklin, TN), nine grandchildren: Matthew Broocks Jung, Elizabeth Broocks Owens, Louisa Caroline Broocks, William Rice Broocks III, Wyatt Noble Broocks, Charles Spurgeon Broocks, Ben C Broocks, Jr., William August Broocks, Ellen Broocks Beeby and five great grandchildren: Addisyn Faith Jung, Landon Thomas Jung, Karis Hope Jung, Connor Michael Beeby, River August Owens. He will be missed. Services will be held at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home, Saturday, December 9, 2017 at noon.
