

Bill was born in Lillie, Louisiana, April 6, 1942, to Nelson and Geraldine Elkins. He graduated from the University of Texas in El Paso and subsequently earned his medical doctorate from UT Southwestern Medical School. Bill served his country in the US Army in Vietnam, earning two bronze stars. After returning home, and finishing his training, he practiced Internal Medicine for over 40 years, first at Charlton Methodist Medical Center and subsequently Methodist Dallas Medical Center.
Bill was married to Janet Gae Barkley for 33 years and together they raised two children, daughter Amanda and son Nelson. He later was remarried to Charlotte Millare Boucher for over 14 years. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Geraldine, his wife Jan, and his favorite cat Mr. Lucky. He is survived by his wife Charlotte, his daughter Amanda and son-in-law Kirk Colligan, his son Nelson and daughter-in-law Ramie Elkins, stepson Chris and wife Jenny Brown, stepdaughter Robin and husband Yutaka Ushio and nine grandchildren: Emory, Genevieve, Jameson, McKenzie, Reagan, Ella, Olivia, Kai and Ren.
