He always had a sparkle in his eyes, an infectious grin, and truly loved his friends. He also loved the Lord and had an unwavering relationship with Jesus Christ—exemplified by his passion for sharing his faith and “The Gift,” an evangelical book that he authored and has been received worldwide. Gene was born to Nell and Afton Thrash on November 20, 1943, in Jacksonville, Texas. He spent an adventurous youth in Overton, Troup, Henderson, Wright City, and about any other corner of East Texas imaginable, but mostly in his hometown, Kilgore. He married the love of his life, Teresa Propes, in Kilgore in 1968. Gene was a proud Longhorn, having graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1967 with degrees in Zoology and Chemistry. Gene’s career spanned investment advisory services and oil and gas investing and exploration before finally using his chemistry degree with the founding of Corganics. He loved to hunt, fish, play guitar, write poetry, coach his sons' sports teams, spread the Gospel, cook (and eat), and spend time with his four adoring grandchildren who called him Pops. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Ronnie and Latane. He is survived by his wife, Teresa; his son, Ryan, his wife Liz, and their children, Carter and Claire; his son, Trent, his wife Neely, and their sons, Walker and Will; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service and reception will be held at Park Cities Presbyterian Church in Dallas on Thursday, December 21 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Grace Line Ministry at https://graceline.net/support-grace-line/
