Yolanda was born in Dallas, Texas on December 24th,1948 to Alfredo Martinez and Celia Garcia Martinez where she grew up with three sisters and one brother. As a child, she was called “Nana” by her siblings. The nickname would remain throughout her entire life.
Yolanda graduated from Sunset High School, class of 1967. She worked for Bank of America for twenty two years as an Administrative Secretary in the Auto Loan Department. She took an early retirement to care for her elderly parents. She loved listening and dancing to Country and Mexican music, being with family, watching game shows, and working word puzzles. She was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Lakers. Yolanda was famously known for her cooking! Fried chicken tacos, borracho beans, and potato salad were favorites amongst everyone. She could take anything out of the refrigerator and create a gourmet meal, chased down by an ice cold Big Red soda. She was actively involved in the church with her brothers and sisters in Christ. She had an incredible sense of humor that was only matched by her uncompromising tenacity, and unwavering strength. Yolanda’s heart knew no bounds and was loved by many. She was like a second grandmother and a favorite aunt to her many nieces and nephews, known to them as “Nana”.
Yolanda may be gone to rest, but she is never forgotten as a mother, sister, grandmother, favorite aunt, and friend.
Yolanda is preceded in death by her son Michael Angelo Pina, father Alfredo Martinez, mother Celia G. Martinez, sister Maria Elena Guajardo, and brother Albert Martinez.
