Angelina, known as Angie, was born of Italian immigrants, Benedetto Santora and Arcangela Amoruso on July 30, 1919. Her father passed away when she was a baby and the family moved to Astoria, New York to live with her Mother’s parents. Angie graduated from high school and continued on to graduate from secretarial school. She met her husband, George, in Astoria, and they married on January 11, 1942. She worked and raised her first child while her husband served overseas during WWII for three years. After his return home, they moved to East Northport, Long Island, NY to raise their family in the country. Because she was an Italian beauty, George loved to refer to his Angie as “Lollobrigida” after the famous Italian actress. Angie was an excellent cook and loved preparing meals and many Italian specialties for her family and friends. She was a very social person and had many gatherings and happy occasions with her family, neighbors and other friends. Angie had an aptitude for numbers and was a bookkeeper at Larkfield Lumber Co. in East Northport for many years. When George retired, they enjoyed many travels across the U.S. They finally moved to Boise, Idaho in 1988 to be near their daughter, Jean, her husband and 3 boys. They both became “Idahoans” and spent many happy family occasions going on fishing expeditions with the Idaho grandkids – certainly a new experience for city girl Angelina! She became a volunteer at the Idaho Elks Rehabilitation Hospital and gave many years of service. There were also lots of trips to Jackpot, Nevada where she had fun with the excitement of the slot machines! Angie moved back East to Connecticut to live with her daughter, Ellen, in 2011 and had the pleasure of being near for the birth of her youngest great grandson, Lucas, and seeing first hand his development and and growth gave her many reasons for smiling. She also had the opportunity to enjoy visits from her son, George, who lived in Michigan, as well as his extended family and her daughter, Jean from Idaho and her family. In her later years, Angie handled her infirmities with grace and courage. We thank Filosa’s staff for their loving personal care and concern for mom at a time in her life when she was not able to enjoy doing things that were always dear to her.
Angie was always smiling, very social and loved to talk to people. We will all miss her beautiful smile, fun loving spirit, and most of all the love she always showed her family, demonstrated in so many ways. Always a prayerful person, Angie now rests in God’s memory awaiting her Christain hope of resurrection.
