Born on September 1, 1954, in the Bronx, New York, Barbara carried the heart of her city with her throughout her life. She later made her home in New Fairfield, Connecticut, where she lived for over 30 years before residing in Torrington during her final years.
Barbara was known for her extraordinary kindness, her selfless nature, and the unwavering devotion she showed to everyone she loved. To her family and friends, she was precious beyond words. A gifted writer and a talented watercolor artist, Barbara created pieces that brought joy, comfort, and beauty to all who saw them. Her artwork remains a cherished reflection of her gentle spirit.
Her Italian cooking was legendary—especially her Christmas cookies, which became treasured traditions year after year. She loved reminiscing about her childhood in the Bronx, a place she held close to her heart, and she delighted in sharing those stories with her family. Among her greatest joys was spending time with her granddaughter Violet, who lovingly calls her “Grandbabs.”
Barbara is survived by her brother Arthur DiSalvo and his wife Shirley; her daughters Mariclare, Christine, and Sarah Cole; her stepdaughter Kim Cole; her granddaughter Violet; her nieces Ann DiSalvo, Elizabeth DiSalvo, Suzie DiSalvo, Heather Skolds, and Jennifer Skolds; her nephew Peter DiSalvo; her sons-in-law Sky Thompson and Andrew Lombardo; and her many cousins whom she loved dearly.
She will be remembered not only for her creativity and warmth, but for her remarkable strength. No matter what life placed before her, Barbara remained unbreakable in spirit and endlessly kind at heart.
