Christine Matey

Christine Matey, 97, of 132 Main St., Danbury passed away peacefully at Hancock Hall in Danbury on Sunday morning after a brief illness. Born in Danbury, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna Jurik Matey.

She attended Danbury High School and worked for many years as a seamstress for Grand Manufacturing in Danbury. Christine was an active life-long member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Danbury. There, she was a member of the Ladies Aid Society, a former Sunday school teacher and a 50 year member of the Cradle Roll.

Survivors include her nephews: John Matey of West Haven, CT, Daniel Jurenka of Long Beach, CA and Stephen Matey of Torrington, CT. Her nieces: Gloria Chiarella of Derby and Anna Schneier of Derwood, MD. Many great nephews and nieces also survive.

Funeral Services will be conducted Friday at 10am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Danbury with the Rev. Allen German, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Danbury. Friends will be received on Friday morning from 8:30 am to 9:30am at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
