Born on March 31, 1936, in Passaic, NJ, to Peter Paul Sklenar and Mildred Alice (Sudol) Sklenar, Dan attended Fairleigh Dickinson College and enjoyed a long and dedicated career as a draftsman with United Technologies.
Dan married his high school sweetheart, the late Antoinette “Anita” Ruggerio, on June 25, 1955. They began their family the following year and moved to New Fairfield in 1967, where they continued to grow their loving household.
Dan was a beloved father, friend, and neighbor. He worked hard yet was always quick with a smile and a kind word. He was known for keeping a treat or two in his pocket for the neighborhood dogs, a small gesture that reflected his gentle nature. Dan also held a deep and devout faith in God, which guided him throughout his life and sustained him in times of joy and challenge.
A true draftsman at heart, Dan enjoyed technical hobbies, especially building model airplanes. He and Anita were an active and social couple who loved volleyball and bowling, but some of their happiest moments were spent on Long Beach Island, NJ—fishing, metal detecting, visiting bakeries, and making memories with family.
In addition to his parents and his wife of 55 years, Anita, Dan was predeceased by his daughter, Donna Meeske; his brother, Robert P. Sklenar; his nephew, Christopher Sklenar; and his son-in-law, George Schafer.
He is survived by his brother, Cliff (Karen) Sklenar; daughter, Deborah M. Schafer; his son, Paul Sklenar, and Paul’s wife, Christine; his grandchildren, Michele (Teddy) Roman, Scott (Amanda) Schafer, Heather (Nick) Hopkins, Renee Meeske, and Danielle (Andrew) O’Hara; and his great-grandchildren, Teddy, Mya, Lucy, and Alice Roman; Finley and Macy Johnson; Georgia Schafer; and Elena and Jaxson Hopkins.
Dan leaves this world deeply loved by a family forever grateful for every moment shared with him and comforted by the knowledge that his steadfast faith has brought him home.
