David C. Hayes

David C. Hayes (Grandpa, Dave, Dad), 82, of Bethel, CT, transitioned peacefully on Tuesday May 5th, 2020 while home at 8A Midway Drive. He was the husband of Joyce; father of Theresa and David; father-in-law to Laura; and grandfather of Alexandria, David Alexander, and Tarek.

Dave was born in Suffield, CT, the son of Annette Laguerre and Charles Hayes. He served a part of the US 101st Airborne Division during the 1960’s and was an officer for the Bethel Police Department for 42 ½ years.

Dave was a beloved figure in Bethel; a staple of the town. Living in Bethel since the early 1970’s, he was active throughout the town. He was a part of the Bethel youth soccer program from the beginning, a member of the Bethel police color guard, the “assistant life guard” of the Bethel high swim team for 5 years, and would frequently be found smiling and directing traffic at PT Barnum square, football games, and the Saint Mary’s carnival. He also Bethel’s number sports fan as he would often wear Bethel gear, and often being seen at soccer games, track and cross country meets, football games, swim meets.

Dave loved his community, his friends, and his family. His children and grandchildren keep his charm and Witt alive, and will forever keep warm memories of him. It is with sadness that he must leave this plane for his next journey, but his family and friends are confident he will find peace in what comes next.
