Dolores was born on October 13, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Harry Yerman and Louise Sullivan (Hurley), she is the mother of Christina and Kevin Doherty.
As a child, Dolores lived on the beautiful Lehrenkrauss Estate in Huntington Harbor, NY, where her father was caretaker and chauffeur. They later moved to Brooklyn, NY, where she was a fashion model for Macy's in NYC.
After marrying Jack E. Doherty, a former navigator on Grace Lines fleet, she moved back to her beloved town of Huntington years later, to a home overlooking Long Island Sound and worked part-time in real estate.
Her later years were spent with her long-time partner, Peter Gunther, enjoying travelling with their beloved dog, Teddy, dining, going to the theater and time spent with friends and loved ones, including Peter's dear family, for over thirty years. She had a life-long love of all things beautiful, from art to interior design, theater and music. She was a keen inventor, having learned many skills from her father from rewiring lamps to repurposing everyday items in clever ways; always a "project" in the works!
Dolores is survived by her two children: Christina Doherty (Vincent Furci) and Kevin Doherty (Jodie Doherty) and her granddaughter, Angelina Doherty. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her. She was particularly close with Peter's daughter, Joanne Demaree, over many years, sharing many conversations and visits with grandchildren Kristin and Jillian.
She received loving care from the Maplewood staff, Visiting Angels of Brookfield and Danbury Regional Hospice who were all extremely caring, supportive and understanding.
A Memorial Service for Dolores will be held at Maplewood at Stony Hill, 46 Stony Hill Road, Bethel, CT on April 7, 2017 at 2:00pm.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Danbury Regional Hospice, 30 Milestone Rd, Danbury, CT 06810, or to The Public Broadcasting Service Foundation (PBS), http://www.pbs.org/foundation/ways-to-give/ .
