Dorothy Ann (Novella) Scozzafava 99, a former resident of Danbury and West Palm Beach, FL, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2016 in Indianapolis IN, where she currently lives. Dorothy was born on January 11, 1917 in Danbury, to the late John and Vincenza (Ross) Novella. She was the sixth of 12 children, ten of whom predeceased her.
Dorothy married the love of her life, the late Louis John Scozzafava, on November 29, 1941. They were married for 68 years until his death in 2009.
Dorothy’s family has always been her greatest priority and greatest joy. She loved holidays and special family events with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also loved spending the winters with her beloved husband, Louis, at their condominium in Florida, as well as traveling with him throughout mainland U.S, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and the Caribbean.
Dorothy was a woman who was definitely “ahead of her time”. She had a strong, independent nature. Unlike other women of her generation, she worked full-time outside the home for The Barden Corporation, retiring from there in 1980. Her outside work was in addition to running her household and raising two children with her husband, Louis. She was happiest when doing for others. She enjoyed hosting dinner parties for family, friends, and her children’s friends. Dorothy was an accomplished cook and she graciously shared recipes with all who asked for them. Her recipes will continue to be served with love in many homes.
Dorothy is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Ann Scozzafava of Wilton, a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Timothy Burns of Indianapolis IN, seven grandchildren: Mark Scozzafava, Darien; Andrew Scozzafava, Norwalk; Alison Scozzafava, Wilton; Suzanne Burns Knittel, Manhattan Beach CA; Matthew Burns, Chicago IL; Daniel Burns, Redondo Beach CA; Andrea Burns, Indianapolis IN; and seven great-grandchildren: Claire, Theodore, and Patrick Scozzafava, Darien; Audrey Ritter, Wilton; Louis, Domenic and Sebastian Knittel, Manhattan Beach CA
Dorothy is also survived by one sister, Christine Kiliany, of Danbury, as well as many nieces and nephews in CT and FL.
